How Andre Drummond can see more consistent playing time for the Chicago Bulls by honing his role in the offense

Published Thu, 20 Feb 2025 19:37:20 GMT

Andre Drummond is looking to forge a more consistent role with the Chicago Bulls this season.Last season was unpredictable for Drummond. When he was on the court, he gave the Bulls a presence around the rim, finishing second on the team with 6.6 rebounds per game despite averaging less than 13 minutes. But his playing time was rarely consistent.Drummond would go weeks without getting more than six minutes in a game — even sitting out as a healthy scratch for five of seven games in mid-January — then would turn around to log more than 15 minutes the following week. When Drummond exercised his $3.36 million player option for 2023-24 in June, he sat down with coach Billy Donovan to define more specific expectations for this season.“We really took a deep dive into what I can do to help this team on both ends of the court,” Drummond said. “My passing ability, being able to get our guys open when I do have the ball, (being able) to set screens and duck in and ...

EWISTON, Maine (AP) — Five months before the deadliest mass shooting in Maine’s history, the gunman’s family alerted the sheriff that they were becoming “concerned” about his deteriorating mental health while he had access to firearms, authorities said Monday. After the alert, the Sagadohoc County Sheriff's Office reached out to officials of Robert Card’s Army Reserve unit, which assured deputies that they would speak to Card and make sure he got medical attention, Sheriff Joel Merry said. The family’s concern about Card's mental health dated back to early this year before the sheriff's office was contacted in May, marking the earliest in a string of interactions that police had with the 40-year-old firearms instructor before he marched into a bowling alley and then a bar in Lewiston last Wednesday, killing 18 people and wounding 13 others. He was found two days later with a self-inflicted gunshot wound after an intensive search spanning two days that caused shelter-in-place orders and...

Upon Further Review: How Broncos’ pass rush managed to contain Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes in win

Published Thu, 20 Feb 2025 19:37:20 GMT

Baron Browning timed his move perfectly. With under a minute left in the second quarter against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Broncos outside linebacker closed into the pocket and in a split second maneuvered around left tackle Donovan Smith before he strip-sacked quarterback Patrick Mahomes, leading to a fumble recovery by Jonathon Cooper. There are few times when teams have been able to contain Mahomes, a two-time MVP and Super Bowl champion. In the Broncos’ 24-9 win over the Chiefs on Sunday, they did exactly that by keeping him inside the pocket and staying committed to the pass rush.“We limited the opportunities to make explosive plays and not let (Mahomes) sit back and scramble around,” Browning said.In Denver’s most complete defensive performance of 2023, Mahomes threw two interceptions while posting the second-lowest quarterback rating in a game in his career (59.2). The Broncos’ performance up front was the difference maker, recording three sacks and 11 quarterback...

The easiest homemade bread for an irresistible sandwich

Published Thu, 20 Feb 2025 19:37:20 GMT

By Genevieve Ko, The New York TimesMaking yeasted bread is one of the few acts of cooking where ingredients actually come to life. Dough expands in size and flavor when yeast feast on sugar to then release carbon dioxide gas. Seeing and smelling dough rise can be as restorative as eating the warm loaf, but only if the process feels foolproof and manageable. And right now, very little does. There isn’t room for the uncertainty of sourdough starter, time to plan around slow rises or even the physical energy to knead dough. Or at least there wasn’t for me when I wanted a focaccia sandwich but didn’t have the bandwidth for an intensive project. What I was really craving was mortadella and something great to eat it in — a tender focaccia like one I had at the slip of a restaurant Storico8 in Sorrento, Italy. The top was smooth and wavy with domes — not sunken with dimples — and the center was more air bubble than not.In achieving something similar but for home kitchens and cooks of a...

SF Giants’ Alex Cobb will miss start of next season after hip procedure

Published Thu, 20 Feb 2025 19:37:20 GMT

The San Francisco Giants and Alex Cobb believe they found a remedy for the impinged hip that bothered him for the better part of the season. But it will come at cost, a surgical procedure with a recovery timetable that knocks their No. 2 starter out for the start of next season.Cobb, 36, is scheduled to undergo surgery on his left hip Tuesday in Vail, Colorado, the club announced. The procedure, performed by Dr. Marc Philippon, will prevent Cobb from pitching for approximately six months. Without accounting for typical six-week build up he will miss in spring training, that means Cobb won’t begin to pitch again until about the start of May.One of only two Giants pitchers to log at least 20 starts and 150 innings, Cobb was named an All-Star for the first time in 2023, finishing with a 3.87 ERA while throwing his most innings since 2018. But throughout much of it, he had been pitching through an impingement in his left hip.During the All-Star festivities in Seattle, Cobb sported...
