Fire officials investigating series of suspicious fires in Concord

Authorities are investigating four suspicious fires in Concord on Sunday.Emergency crews responding to a reported fire at the Beede Swim Center on Walden Street around 12 p.m. found two fires, one behind the swim center and one in front.Then, around 12:30 p.m., crews responded to another fire at the US Post Office on Walden Street and another about a half-hour later on Lexington Road.There were no reported injuries.A person of interest has been identified in connection with the fires, officials said. Items possibly related to the other incidents were found outside of Concord District Court and all of the incidents remain under investigation. LAS VEGAS — The seemingly endless wait for Ben Simmons to play competitive basketball remains open-ended.Nearly five months since his last game with the Nets, Simmons’s training still doesn’t include 5-on-5 or 3-on-3 workouts, GM Sean Marks revealed Sunday.It was a notable development since the Australian national team coach said recently that Simmons was gearing up to play in August at the FIBA World Cup. Shaw, 21, was considered one of the top college hitters in the draft. (AP) — Heavy rain sparked extreme flooding in New York’s Hudson Valley that killed at least one person, swamped roadways and forced road closures on Sunday night.The National Weather Service issued flash flood warnings across parts of southeastern New York, describing it as “life threatening.”One person died due to the flooding, Steven M. FRANKLIN PARK, Ill. — A nine-year-old boy from Chicago was shot and killed while attending a birthday party for his grandmother in Franklin Park Saturday night, according to the Franklin Park Police Department.Police said nine-year-old Ulysses Campos was playing near an alley in the 2800 block of Elder Lane when a disturbance took place. Shots were fired from a moving vehicle, and Ulysses was hit in the chest.Once first responders arrived on scene, Ulysses was taken to Loyola Hospital in Maywood, where he was pronounced dead. ROCKFORD, Ill. — A man from Blue Island has been charged with first degree murder after a 10-year-old girl was found dead in Rockford Saturday, according to the Rockford Police Department.Antonio Monroe, 44, was charged Sunday with first degree murder, attempted murder, two counts of kidnapping and aggravated battery/strangulation.
