NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Alzheimer's disease is expected to spike nationwide in future years, and according to new data released by the Alzheimer's Association, there is a significant shortage in the dementia care workforce.  Twenty states in the U.S. have been identified as neurology "deserts" by the Alzheimer's Association, meaning they had a projected shortage of doctors and caregivers specializing in dementia. Carolyn Berry of Tennessee — one of the 20 "desert" states — says she's aware of the challenges faced by families of those with cognitive diseases. "The testing come back that she was on par with ...

From QB to LB: T.J. Edwards’ road home to the Bears included a position change

CHICAGO – He’s not the first to complete the journey and he probably won’t be the last, either. But that doesn’t make what T.J. Edwards has done this week any less special, especially considering his path to being a linebacker for the Bears. That’s because the Lake Villa native’s road to joining his hometown team on a new three-year, $19 million contract began under center for his high school.“The question that may be on your mind is why the heck did you play him at quarterback,” said Luke Mertens, who was Edwards coach at Lakes Community High School and is now in that position at St. Patrick High School in Chicago. “Some people insinuate that I screwed up, like, ‘How did you not have him at linebacker?’”Some could ask that question since Edwards was a starter at that position for the Philadelphia Eagles for a good part of his four years with that team in the NFL after being an All-American at Wisconsin. But Mertens had his reasons for having Edwards be his quarterback with the Eagles...

(The Conversation) - Do you ever wake up some days and think, “When I was younger, I could survive on just four hours of sleep, but now it seems like I need 10”? Or have you ever walked out of the gym and “felt” your knees?Almost everyone experiences these kinds of signs of aging. But there are some people who seem to defy their age. And actor Paul Rudd was named People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” in 2021 at age 52 while still looking like he’s in his 30s. Is age just a number then?Researchers have focused a lot of attention on understanding the causes and risk factors of age-related diseases like Alzheimer’s, dementia, osteoporosis and cancer. But many ignore the major risk factor for all of these diseases: aging itself. ...
